Ecosystems, Carbon and Climate
My name is Jon Gewirtzman (he/him) and I am a plant, microbial, and ecosystem ecologist & biogeochemist.
I am interested in how ecosystems influence and are influenced by the global cycles of carbon, nutrients, and greenhouse gases in our era of rapid environmental change. I am particularly fascinated by ecological interactions between plants, microbes, and their environments across scales from genes to ecosystems, and how we can leverage those processes for environmental solutions.
I recently completed my PhD with the Raymond Lab and the Bradford Lab at the Yale School of the Environment, and the Peccia Lab at the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science. In 2026, I am begining a Stanford Science Fellows postdoc, with the Jackson Lab in the Department of Earth System Science.
I am have also recently been a Research Fellow at Harvard Forest, an LTER Synthesis Fellow, and an Adjunct Professor of Botany at Connecticut College.
