Content audit against the earlier Overleaf export
Expanded historical comparison — additional findings, 20 October 2026
Compared the current sources with the March 2023, September 2020 full, April 2021 full, and September 2019 Word CVs and the 2025 Woodwell/application PDF versions. This comparison goes beyond the supplied TeX export; the following omissions already existed in that export/newer baseline. The user subsequently authorized restoring the four strongest candidates below; they are now included in both CV versions. The user declined restoration of the older optional activities and confirmed that the older award amounts are correct.
Substantive candidates to restore
- July 2022: Guest Instructor, Environmental Science & Sustainability High School Summer Program, National Student Leadership Conference. Present in the March 2023 CV and 2025 application PDFs.
- July 2022: Enrichment Course Instructor, Yale Pathways to Science Summer Scholars Program. Same historical sources.
- 2020 onward (historical wording, not a verified current end date): Skype a Scientist classroom presentations. The 2025 CV lists nine schools, grades 3–12. A 2023 CV separately records a 2020 visiting-scientist appearance at Rooftop K–8 School in San Francisco, likely the same activity; do not duplicate. The current outreach source only has a comment about this work, so it is absent from the printed CV.
- 2017–2020 Boston University research mentoring: master’s students Melissa Berry and Stephen Caron; two field technicians also included in the older mentoring description. The 2020/2021/2023 full CVs list both master’s students, whereas the current mentoring entry names undergraduates and high-school students only. Restore as research training/mentoring, without implying formal thesis supervision.
Older items requiring an editorial choice
- 2019 field teaching/tours: Hubbard Brook for a Syracuse University graduate field-methods course; BU atmospheric-deposition site for a Harvard Law School class; Harvard Forest field site/equipment for a Hunter College ecology class. Could be retained as one grouped field-teaching entry.
- 2019 Brookline Public School K–6 science-fair judge.
- Drexel University research assistant, October 2013–August 2014; older CV describes climate-change-denial organization/network research. The advisor name appears as “Steve Brulle” in an older version and should be verified before printing. This is an actual earlier research appointment omitted from the newer baseline, not simply a shortened job description.
- Yale greenhouse assistant from September 2022; appears as active employment in the 2023 Word CV but is commented out in the later TeX export. End date not verified.
- IvyExperience private tutoring (2013–2014), Vermont Youth Conservation Corps leadership crew (summer 2013), and PennEnvironment fracking-campaign internship (2013–2014). These have lower priority in an assistant-professor CV.
- AGU 2016 coauthored poster, “Permafrost Thaw and Vegetation Cover Change May Alter Silicon Exports to Arctic Coastal Receiving Waters,” Carey/Tang/Gewirtzman/Spencer. Present in the 2020 CV; source record carey2016arctic is already commented out in presentations.bib. The commented presenting keyword is not evidence that Gewirtzman presented it.
Historical discrepancies rather than missing items
- AmeriCorps education award: older Word CVs list $1,175; newer PDFs and current source list $3,500.
- Charles and Phyllis Rosenthal Brown–MBL Partnership Award: older Word CVs list $4,500; newer PDFs and current source list $5,400.
- Same-titled Templer/Hubbard Brook warmer-growing-season/reduced-snowpack presentation is dated 2019 in the older Word CV and 2020 in newer PDFs/current bibliography; could be a date correction or repeated presentation, not enough evidence to duplicate it.
- The 2016 “Financing options for loss and damage” report and UNFCCC submission were separate entries with the same title/authors in older CVs. Current CV retains one report; determine whether these were distinct outputs before adding a duplicate.
- Declined Taylor and Swearer awards, technical-skills lists, reference contacts, summary metrics, and long early-position descriptions were absent or commented out before the current consolidation. Their absence is not evidence of a newly dropped accomplishment.
No additional missing peer-reviewed article was identified in the historical publication lists inspected. This does not constitute an email-wide audit of activities never entered on a CV.
Guest teaching recovered from older CVs and email — 20 October 2026
The earlier audit covered the supplied TeX export, not all historical CVs. An expanded search found two course guest lectures present in older application PDFs but absent from the newer baseline and supplied export. Both are restored to detailed and compact teaching sections:
- December 2022: “Forests and greenhouse gases,” Forest Dynamics (EVST 360/ENV 660), Yale University; instructor Marlyse Duguid. Present in the March 2023 CV and older application CVs. July 2023 email also explicitly refers to the lecture delivered the preceding year.
- 28 October 2024: “Coastal wetlands in the global carbon cycle,” Global Wetlands (ESPP 90W), Harvard University; instructor Jaclyn Hatala Matthes. Present in older application CVs; date and delivery independently confirmed in Matthes’s teaching-observation form emailed 1 January 2025.
Added the fall 2025 guest field lab on ecosystem carbon exchange for Annise Dobson’s Yale EEB 3343L. November 2025 planning emails describe marsh CO2/CH4 exchange, net ecosystem exchange and respiration measurements, and carbon-stock demonstrations; a completed teaching-observation form was returned 25 November. Dobson’s completed observation confirms delivery on 18 November 2025 and names the course “Ecosystem Measurement for Conservation and Restoration”; the printed entry uses the plural “Measurements,” consistent with the catalog title. The departmental page uses an alternate title, “Ecosystem Measurements for Ecology and Conservation.” The descriptive lab topic is not represented as a verified formal lecture title.
Joseph Tumber-Dávila invited Gewirtzman to guest lecture in Dartmouth Forest Ecology in fall 2025. September and November correspondence discusses scheduling, but no completed visit or delivery date was found. This invitation is not added as delivered teaching.
Email evidence (Yale Gmail): threads 189855bcb2ea4549, 193dff6363654e23, 192cedc7f925f23d, 19a5edbb22cae948, 19a9488b7a71cb25, and 19935fbd093af937. Historical source: postdocs/Gewirtzman_CV_WCRC.pdf and faculty/misc/old materials/Gewirtzman_CV_updated.pdf under the user’s local Applications, Resumes, CVs folder.
Compared the extracted Curriculum_Vitae___Gewirtzman (1) export with the detailed section sources and the consolidated CV on 19 October 2026.
Findings and repairs
The newer GitHub baseline had already omitted seven appearances present in the earlier export. These are now restored in both builds:
- 2025 Joint NASA BlueFlux–Everglades Foundation Workshop and Partner Meeting, International Center for Tropical Botany, Miami, FL: Science Communication & Public Engagement.
- 2024 and 2021 Applying for a PhD, Yale School of the Environment: Teaching / Training Workshops & Student Development.
- 2024 Introduction to R for Ecology, Harvard Forest Summer Research Program: Teaching / Training Workshops & Student Development.
- 2024 Preparing for Graduate School, Harvard Forest Summer Research Program: Teaching / Training Workshops & Student Development.
- 2024 Fieldwork Safety, Yale School of the Environment: Teaching / Training Workshops & Student Development.
- 2022 Research Preparedness, Yale School of the Environment: Teaching / Training Workshops & Student Development.
Restored the public lecture’s Friends of Hammonasset attribution and all five venue cities, plus Homestead Airport for the NASA BlueFlux Community Day. The newer baseline had shortened these details.
Retained or consolidated
citations.bib,presentations.bib, andmentees.texmatch the earlier export after trimming trailing whitespace. All 41 publication/chapter/report records and 48 conference records remain. Bibliography display filters are unchanged apart from separate numbering sequences.- The original detailed education, service, DEI, research-development, and society-membership files also match after trimming trailing whitespace.
- Society memberships remain: Ecological Society of America, American Geophysical Union, European Geophysical Union (source wording), and British Ecological Society. In the compact build they are under Leadership & Service / Professional Memberships; the complete build has an Affiliations section.
- Funding and honors were separated from the older combined file. The compact funding view groups recurring awards and retains all 31 individual amounts, years, grant titles, and collaborator lists.
- The compact mentoring view groups repeated roles and retains all 50 named mentees/supervisors in the newer baseline, along with their institutions, project topics, and dates. The older export lacked the subsequently added Bangladesh doctoral committee.
- Earlier appointments retain titles, institutions, locations, and dates with less prose. Chicago is explicitly described as an incoming appointment starting Fall 2027 rather than an already-active assistant professorship.
- Teaching retains every active course title, semester, enrollment, qualification, and consulting entry. Restored workshops are separate from formal courses.
One substantive figure still excluded
The older export printed Total competitive funding awarded: $769,882. This aggregate was already removed from the newer GitHub baseline, and has not been restored: it combines personal fellowships, collaborative project budgets, and research/travel awards. Individual amounts remain. Confirm award roles and the amount basis before presenting an aggregate; a cumulative total should have an explicit, consistent definition.
Already excluded in the older export
The highlights box was commented out. Research interests, technical skills, references, and the alternate employment-with-hours section were not included by the main document. Dissertation/thesis titles and Ph.D. advisor names in Education, several older employment descriptions, and older optional outreach/tutoring entries were already commented out. Their absence from the rendered CV is not a new removal.
Additions already present in the newer baseline
The newer baseline includes the Bangladesh doctoral committee; Southern Cross University and Global Carbon Project invited engagements; the Utah State Blue Carbon guest lecture; and expanded media, public writing, and science-communication project entries. These remain.
Validation and limits
Both restored builds compile successfully without final TeX/Biber warnings. Original source comparison distinguishes active entries from commented material. Funding-amount, named-mentee, and active-course-title checks were also run during consolidation. Layout inspection covers rendered pages and detailed teaching/mentoring views. Dates, grant roles, current manuscript statuses, presenter tags, affiliation start dates, and membership currency have not been independently verified.
Subsequent user clarification and presentation changes
The user confirmed Chicago starts in fall 2027 and Harvard supervision is completed. Everglades and NASA awards used university PI status. The YIBS manure project was co-written and awarded to the user. GMF, Listening to the Forest, 2024 sonification, and 2022 tree methane awards were co-written, awarded to the user, and used an informal internal co-PI designation. These roles are now stated explicitly rather than treating all awards as PI grants.
The Stanford fellowship was awarded at $101,000 per year ($93,000 salary plus $8,000 research funds) for three years, with one year to be used before Chicago. The compact CV lists fellowship dates and annual research allowance; the detailed version retains the original award breakdown and tenure. This is an intentional presentation distinction, not lost source information. Both current versions are 14 pages.
The user subsequently requested retaining the full Stanford fellowship award value in the compact version. It now states the $303,000 three-year award and the one-year fellowship period together; salary remains unitemized there. A short research-focus line was added from the existing research-interest themes. Remaining verification concerns include current manuscript/chapter status, scheduled conference/talk status, presenter tags, and whether the Yale Title IX role remains ongoing.
The user supplied the published Ecosystem Dynamics chapter citation. Its record now uses publication year 2026, pages 318–324, publisher SAGE Publications, Inc., and DOI 10.4135/9781071908006.n104. The anticipated-publication label is removed. Forest palette variants use the exact Forest (#275D38), Light Forest (#9CAF88), and Dark Forest (#284734) colors from the supplied UChicago guide; Ivy is not used in those variants.
Funding classification by purpose
At the user’s request, Fellowships contains only Stanford Science Fellowship and NSF GRFP, which supported positions. NASA CTSG, Great Mountain Forest Taylor, Kohlberg-Donohoe, and YIBS fellowships are project support under Research Grants & Awards; official titles are unchanged. Brown Environmental Science Summer Research Award joins scholarships and education awards under Honors & Awards in both versions. Academic Appointments and Research Experience are peer sections, and the Earlier Mentoring subheading is removed. All funding entries and amounts are unchanged.
Person-centered mentoring record
Both versions now share one mentoring source, grouped under Doctoral Advisory Committees, Thesis & Independent Study Advising, and Research Mentoring. Staff advising remains within research mentoring. Ashley Dawn, Megan Brueck, Qespi Wood, and Hannah Burrows each have a consolidated entry recording all distinct roles and dates. Other cohorts remain grouped with every name retained. Brown peer mentoring moved to academic service. No mentoring relationships, projects, or institutions were removed.
User decisions after expanded audit — 20 October 2026
Restored the National Student Leadership Conference and Yale Pathways to Science summer 2022 teaching roles under Pre-College Teaching, Skype a Scientist classroom outreach (documented 2020–2025), and BU research mentoring of Melissa Berry, Stephen Caron, and two field technicians. Skype a Scientist retains all nine schools, locations, and the overall grade range from historical records; no current continuation beyond the documented period is asserted. Corrected the Rosenthal Brown–MBL award to $4,500 and the AmeriCorps Segal award to $1,175 in both active honors sources, as confirmed by the user. Archived historical sources are unchanged.
At the user’s direction, do not restore the 2019 field teaching, Drexel position, greenhouse role, AGU 2016 poster, or other older work. These exclusions are now explicit editorial choices.
Consistent guest-teaching detail — 20 October 2026
At the user’s request, all four guest-teaching entries now use semester, role, course title, and institution, with virtual delivery retained for Utah State. Individual lecture titles, course numbers, instructor names, and day/month dates are omitted uniformly from the printed entries; recovered details remain in this audit above and in the historical sources. Science Journal for Kids is dated 2026 rather than Forthcoming, as confirmed by the user.
